Letter From the University of Arkansas Angers ASU Fans

JONESBORO, AR -- A letter sent out to juniors and seniors who applied to The University of Arkansas has some Arkansas State University fans upset.

The letter claimed The University of Arkansas is the only NCAA division one program in the state, a claim that is far from the truth.

In fact, there are five division one schools in Arkansas:  The University of Arkansas, Arkansas State University, The University of Central Arkansas, The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.

"I took it as a slap in the face, but I realize that it's really a slap in the face to all the division one teams in the state," said Delaine Landrum.

Delaine Landrum is an Arkansas State fan.  He and his wife attend as many games as they can.

"Any time you sit there and you read that they say that they're the only division one program in this state, that's just a flat out lie," said Landrum.

We contacted the University of Arkansas for comment and they didn't return our phone calls.  Representatives with A.S.U. also decided not to comment.

Landrum said it's the undertone of the letter that concerns him the most.

"To me that's just saying, 'We are the only division one program in this state,' and they're sending that out to all the students that they're recruiting and it's unfair competition," said Landrum.

Landrum isn't against the University of Arkansas.  He feels this was the wrong move.

"The University of Arkansas is a fine institution and I would hope that they wouldn't stoop to that level and do something intentional like that.  This was definitely a major blunder on their part," said Landrum.

He says he thinks the University of Arkansas should apologize for the contents of the letter and send a new one out to students.
