Whirlpool Sells Closed Searcy Plant to Realty Group

SEARCY, AR - Whirlpool Corporation announced today that is has sold the former Maytag plant in Searcy along with other facilities to a realty company that specializes in finding fresh uses for shuttered plants.

Production ended December 22 at the Searcy plant, which employed 700 people.

The plant was sold as part of a package that included facilities in Illinois, Iowa and West Virginia.  The buyer was Industrial Realty Group of Los Angeles, which redevelops a wide variety of properties, including closed military bases, factories and commercial properties.

Whirlpool says it will lease back the Searcy plant through April so the plant can be shut down and cleaned as planned.
