SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Branson is suing 14 Internet travel companies for back taxes the Ozark tourist city claims the companies never paid on hotel room bookings.

Travelocity and Expedia are among the travel Web sites named in the suit.

The litigation follows similar legal efforts in several other U.S. cities. Officials have alleged that online travel services charged customers for local tourism taxes but never remitted those funds.

Branson's lawsuit was filed in Greene County Circuit Court last week. It alleges the travel services either failed to collect or collected and failed to remit a four percent tourism tax.

Branson adopted the tax in 1997 on the gross proceeds derived from hotel room rentals.
