Shoe Factory to Close in Wynne

JANUARY 5, 2007 - Posted at 7:25 a.m. CST

WYNNE, AR - The Addison Shoe Company plans to close its factory in Wynne, a move that will put 174 employees out of work.

The factory, owned by Hot Springs-based Munro & Company, manufactures military, work, casual and dress shoes.

Company co-president Neil Munro says financial losses and uncertaintees in the civilian and military private label market have made it impossible for the company to continue on.  Munro says employees at the Wynne factory will be paid until March 5.  The company is now looking for potential buyers for the factory.

Munro will continue to operate its manufacturing plants in Hot Springs, Mount Ida and Clarksville.
