Big Business Opposing Entergy's Rate Increase in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - A collaboration of big businesses -- calling themselves The Commercial Group -- says a request by Entergy Arkansas to increase rates may be unfair. The group includes Wal-Mart, Kroger and other national retailers.

They object to the utility's request to boost the burden of electricity costs on big business while reducing the amount shouldered by residential users. The Arkansas Public Service Commission is reviewing Entergy's $150 million-dollar-a-year request. If approved, the request could raise monthly residential base rates by 11.6 percent. For large-scale users, the increase nearly doubles to 21.7 percent.
