Police Say Man Charged with Killing Three People Put Dead Child in Heated Oven

JANUARY 10, 2007 - Posted at 7:52 a.m. CST

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Last month's gruesome killings of a mother and her two young children have been detailed in autopsy results released yesterday by Fort Smith police.

Police say autopsies show that 28-year-old Bridgette Barr was strangled to death, 5-year-old Sydney Barr was stabbed in the neck and 2-year-old Garrett Barr was smothered to death. Authorities believe the little boy's body was also placed in a heated oven after his death.

Thirty-year-old James Aaron Miller is charged with capital murder in the deaths. He has pleaded innocent and remains in jail.

Fort Smith police say Miller and Bridgette Barr had been dating for about two years when she and her children were killed. Authorities say the children lived with their father in Oklahoma and were visiting their mother for the holidays.
