JONESBORO, AR - A Jonesboro manufacturer is laying off several workers.

Great Dane Manufacturing laid off 140 workers Thursday afternoon, according to plant manager Larry Chipman, who said he was not at liberty to elaborate further.  Several calls to the company's corporate headquarters in Chicago were never returned.

The Great Dane plant opened in Jonesboro in 1992 as Trailmobile, but then closed nine years later.  The local facility was later purchased by Great Dane in May of 2002, and re-opened a short time later.  About 500 people are employed at the Jonesboro plant, which is located in the Craighead Technology Park.

Great Dane manufactures trailers, primarily for use with semi-trucks.
