Massachusetts Police Arrest Region 8 Man on Kidnapping Charge

JANUARY 22, 2007 - Posted at 7:36 a.m. CST

BOSTON - Massachusetts State Police say they've arrested an Arkansas man on kidnapping and other charges.  Police said in a statement yesterday that 48-year-old Charles Minyard of Searcy, Arkansas, was detained after calling State Police late Friday.

Minyard said in the call that he wanted to clear up an allegation that he had kidnapped a woman from Arkansas.  Police said that, when they went to the Newton Service Plaza on Route 128, where the man had called from, they found the alleged victim seated beside Minyard in a tractor-trailer.

The statement said that an investigation by troopers led to Minyard's arrest on charges of kidnapping, threats to commit bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon, a knife.

Police say the reported victim, an adult female whose identity was withheld, was taken into protective custody.  Minyard was booked and is being held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.  He is to be arraigned in Newton District Court today.
