Paragould Teen Injured in October Wreck Undergoes More Surgery

PARAGOULD, AR - One of the victims in an October traffic accident that resulted in one fatality underwent more surgery last week in Atlanta.

The surgery for 16-year-old Whitney Whelchel of Paragould was considered successful, as a shunt was inside her skull to remove fluid from the area around her brain.  Whelchel is a student at Greene County Tech High School, where she is a cheerleader.

Whelchel was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 49 near Brookland on October 27.  Four other peope were injured in the wreck, which claimed the life of 18-year-old Shauna Kail of Jonesboro.
