Nike Favoring Memphis over Mississippi for New Facility

JANUARY 24, 2007 - Posted at 7:26 a.m. CST

MEMPHIS, TN - Nike favors a new Memphis distribution center rather than one in north Mississippi.

Nike officials considered two sites in DeSoto County, a suburban area of Memphis, but confirmed they are focusing on a 550-acre industrial park in the Raleigh area of north Memphis.

They stressed that the deal is not final yet.

Nike already has 250 full-time employmees at an existing Memphis facility, from which 100,000 pairs of shoes are shipped daily.

Most of the Memphis workers are expected to move to the new facility and 232 full-time employees at a facility in Wilsonville, Oregon, will be offered relocation to Memphis or other options within the company.

The company also operates an apparel, equipment and accessories facility in south Memphis.
