MARIANNA, AR - Talks are set today in Mariannna in an effort to settle a teacher strike in the Lee County School District.
The work stoppage began a week ago over bonuses paid to teachers.
Teachers say they have not been given raises or bonuses in three years. On January 16, the school board voted against a proposal to give teachers a $1,000 bonus, and $400 to other district workers. School Board President David Waldrip says the district does not have the money to make the award.
Superintendent Wayne Thompson says classes will continue to be held during the work stoppage.
