JEFFERSON CITY, MO - The number of methamphetamine lab busts is down significantly in Missouri.
Figures released yesterday by the state Highway Patrol show there were fewer than 1,300 meth lab busts in 2006. That's down more than 40 percent from 2005, when there were more than 2,200 meth lab incidents.
The decrease comes after the state enacted new anti-methamphetamine laws in mid-2005 that targeted ingredients used to make the drug.
That law required cold and allegery medicines that contain pseudoephedrine or ephedrine to be placed behind pharmacy counters. The law also limited the amount of the product that can be purchased each month.
