LITTLE ROCK, AR - An adviser to former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will be the campaign manager for Mike Huckabee's presidential exploratory committee.

Yesterday, Huckabee announced the hiring of John "Chip" Saltsman as the campaign manager for his exploratory bid.  Saltsman will oversee the campaign's political, fundraising and communications aspects.

Saltsman, who is 38, previously worked as senior political adviser to Frist's political action committee, Volpac, which was one of the most active political leadership committees of the last six years.

Huckabee says he began talking to Saltsman about joining the campaign after Frist announced he did not plan to join the 2008 race for the Republican presidential nomination.

Saltsman also is a former chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party.
