ASU Professor Donates Textbooks to University in Iraq

FEBRUARY 5, 2007 - Posted at 7:28 a.m. CST

JONESBORO, AR - An Iraqi college student's on-line request for textbook donations to a university in her country has inspired an Arkansas State professor's efforts to gather books to send to students in that war-torn nation.

Daniel Cline, a professor in ASU's College of Education, says he began the project last year, requesting book donations on topics including engineering, psychology, art history and architecture.  So far, he has sent two shipments to Iraq...a 100-pound shipment and a 50-pound shipment.

The books are shipped to Dubai, then turned over to Global Mail, which takes them to the Iraq postal authorities.  From there, the Iraqi student's mother retreives the books.  What books the students do not use are distributed to libraries at the University of Mosul.
