Reports of Objects Falling from Sky in Cape Girardeau, Southern Illinois

FEBRUARY 5, 2007 - Posted at 7:58 a.m. CST

ST. LOUIS, MO - Dozens of people in eastern and central Missouri claim to see flaming objects falling from the sky.

Ken Tretter with the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Louis says people reported seeing the objects over a widespread area last night, including St. Louis, Cape Girardeau and Pettis County in Missouri and near Alton and Bunker Hill in Illinois.

Major April Cunningham with the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, says a preliminary report indicates the objects came from a meteor.

Cunningham says a pilot reported seeing a meteor, but she could not give any more details.

Most reports described the objects as bright lights or something burning with a flaming tail behind some of them.  Several of the objects were seen exploding when they hit the ground.
