Beebe Appoints Craighead County Man to Head Up Veterans Affairs Department

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Mike Beebe this morning named David Fletcher of Monette as director of the Arkansas Dept. of Veterans Affairs.

"David Fletcher comes to this administration highly recommended by numerous veterans' groups in Arkansas and I agree with their high accolades for David's abilities and service," Beebe said.

The 65-year-old Fletcher is is 29-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.  After his military retirement, Fletcher spent eight years as Mayor of Monette, where he was born and raised.

During his Air Force service, Fletcher was the ranking non-commissioned officer for many national and international programs relating to the military postal system.  At the Pentagon, he headed a $44 million postal operation of the Air Force.  While stationed in the United Kingdom, Fletcher oversaw the postal operation that served U.S. military personnel throughout Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Fletcher has spent 14 years as the Craighead County Veterans Service Officer and is a member of the American Legion, the Air Force Association and the Disabled American Veterans.
