Cross County School District Removed from State's Fiscal Distress List

FEBRUARY 12, 2007 - Posted at 3:28 p.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The State Board of Education voted today to remove a Region 8 school district from Arkansas' fiscal distress list.

The board unanimously approved a petition from the Cross County School District this morning.

Cross County was classified as fiscally distressed last June, after the district was projected to have a deficit of more than $400,000.

Since then, the district elected seven new school board members, hired a new superintendent and cut bus routes, among other measures.  The district is expected to end the current fiscal year with more than $800,000.

The Pulaski County School District was also removed from the list this morning.

Other Region 8 school districts that are on the list include Hughes and Turrell.
