The body of a man was found along
railroad tracks near downtown Batesville -- the day after a
railroad worker reported that he thought he saw a mannequin along
the route and believed somebody should check it out.
The body was fully clothed but most of the man's face was
missing. It was found in the brush at the base of a ten- to 12-foot
bank next to the railroad bed and could only be seen from an
elevated position, such as a train engine.
Investigators had to exercise care today while working through
the brush, fearing they might destroy evidence in case the man died
from foul play.
The body will be sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little
Rock for an autopsy and an attempt at identification.
