JONESBORO, AR - Craighead County sheriff's deputies are investigating a brutal sexual assault that occured on a county road, apparently sometime late Wednesday afternoon.

K8 News has learned that a Hispanic male apparently flagged down a female motorist in rural northern Craighead County, holding what appeared to be a heavily-wrapped baby.  When the woman stopped, he reportedly told her that the infant was sick and not breathing.  The victim then told the man that she knew CPR and for him to get in the car with the infant, asking the man to drive to a hospital while she administred CPR.

After the man slid behind the wheel, the woman discovered that what she thought was a baby was actually a bundle of tools wrapped in blankets.  At that time, the culprit then reportedly pistol-whipped the woman before sexually assaulting her with a screwdriver.

Authorities are trying to track down the rapist at this time, while the victim is being treated at a local hospital.

K8 Reporter Marsha Mays will have more on this disturbing incident tonight at 10, on Nightbeat.
