LITTLE ROCK, AR - A bill that would keep parents from sending 4-year-olds to kindergarten passed the Senate today on a 33-to-0 vote.

The Education Committee had endorsed the bill that would, over the course of three years, roll back the minimum birthday of incoming kindergartners from September 15 to August 1.

The bill, by Senator Gene Jeffress, a Democrat from Louann, would require children entering kindergarten in the 2008-2009 school year to be five years old by September 1.  Each school year after would cut back another two weeks until August 1 by the 2010-2011 school year.
