Radioactive Gauge Reported Stolen

LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health, Radiation Control Sectin has recieved notification this morning from Materials Testing of Arkansas of the theft of a portable industrial gauge containing radioactive material.  This gauge is a TROXLER Model 3440 (S. N. 19914) Soil Density Gauge used in parking lot and roadway construction.  The gauge contains a Cesium radioactive source with an activity of nine millicuries and an Americium radioactive source with an activity of 44 millicuries.  The gauge was stolen this morning between 6:00 am and 6:30 am from the back of a Materials Testing pickup truck parked at the Wal-Mart parking lot on Baseline Road in Little Rock, Arkansas.

If this device is found, local law enforcement authorities and the Division of Health's Raadiation Control Section should immediately be notified. Contact the Division of Health may be contacted at 1-800-633-1735.

Use Caution: This gauge could be a health risk to persons if handled or carred for an extended period of time, however, it does not contain sufficient material to be used for any explosive device.
