JONESBORO, AR - The Jonesboro School District tonight begins hosting a series of five public informational forums at various campuses throughout the district.
The district's Board of Education recently voted to go forward with a long-considered proposal to implement a magnet plan. The first forum is set for this evening at Philadelpha Elementary, which will host the district's Math & Science magnet campus when the plan goes into effect in the next academic year. The session begins with an open house at 6 p.m., and informational meetings will be held beginning at 6:30.
Other sessions are set for Feb. 22 at Hillcrest Elementary (Visual & Performing Arts), Feb. 26 at West Elementary (MicroSociety), Feb. 27 at the Sixth Grade Academic Center (International Studies), and March 1 at South Elementary (Health/Wellness/Environmental Studies).
Magnets are schools of choice, which offer expanded educational opportunities for students. The schools are built around specialized themes and offer experience and study in specific areas.
