Jonesboro House Fire Claims Life

FEBRUARY 20, 2007 -- POSTED AT 10:45 P.M. CST

JONESBORO, AR -- A Jonesboro woman dies in her burning home Tuesday afternoon.

Kenneth Sharp was saddened by the news that his 75 year old sister, Wanda Morgan was killed inside her blazing home.

"I'm going to miss her a whole lot," says Kenneth Sharp, Morgan's brother.

Around four o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Wanda Morgan's home at the 1800 block of Darrick Street in North Jonesboro was engulfed in flames and it didn't take long for fire investigators to figure out the cause.

"She was an oxygen patient and we have information that she was smoking at the time of the fire," says Stan May, the Jonesboro Fire Marshall.

The home is a complete loss, but the family lost much more than just a house. Sharp says his sister has been sick with emphysema for years now and he says they all feared this day would come.

"It makes me sad but I knew it was going to happen sooner or later because she smoked in bed a lot and she had that oxygen on her all the time. But, she got a long good with everybody. She was a good person," adds Sharp.

One other person was at home at the time of the fire but was able to escape the flames without injuries.
