LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Some Arkansas legislators want the state to build a $35 million dollar office building for themselves. They say the ``constituency services'' building -- with space for offices and meeting rooms -- is needed adjacent to the state Capitol.
The House Management Committee filed the legislation to appropriate money to build the facility.
Representative Lenville Evans of Lonoke said the state Capitol is completely filled, and if a constituent wants to meet with a lawmaker, they have nowhere to go. Evans said he didn't know if $35 million dollars would be the amount needed for the building and said the panel decided to file the bill to get it in ahead of today's deadline for appropriations bills.
Evans said committee chairmen are currently the only House members who have offices in the state Capitol.
