LITTLE ROCK, AR - Legislation prohibiting adult-oriented businesses from being located within 1,000 feet of schools, playgrounds, day care centers and other facilities frequented by children was advanced today by a House panel.
The House Rules Committee endorsed the proposal by Representative George Overbey, a Democrat from Lamar, that would resrict locations of adult-oriented businesses, including adult bookstores, strip clubs and adult theaters.
The proposal was written by Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, who said the bill is part of his legislative package. McDaniel said the prohibitions would help protect children from adult establishments.
The bill now goes to the House for a vote.
