Jonesboro, AR -- Once again, the people of Arkansas are coming together to make our state healthier.

The Arkansas Fitness Challenge is underway! Area businesses are competing against one another for a trophy to see who has the most participation.

The challenge began when St. Bernards and ASU decided they wanted their employees to be healthier. Exercising, eating better, and living healthier lifestyles was the goal. And over the years they have accomplished more than that goal.

"When we started, it was just the two of us, but it has grown and now it's a fierce competition!"

Kelly Gross, Fitness Manager at St. Bernards, says the winner of the challenge takes home the trophy and of course bragging rights.

"We partner with KAIT and Triple FM and we are looking to take our 3rd trophy home!"

The bragging rights are nice, but it's the feedback from employees that keeps the challenge going.

"People tell me all the time during the challenge, 'Hey I feel better, I have more energy' or 'I think I'll continue to work out even after this challenge.' It's nice to hear that and of course it's motivation, it makes you want to do better. We just want to make Arkansas a healthier state and this is our part."

The course is a 3 month program where individuals work their way through a virtual course, exercising 3 times a week for 30 minutes a day. They log onto and log their progress throughout the course.
