Father-in-Law Charged in Fatal Eureka Springs Shooting

MARCH 2, 2007 - Posted at 7:53 a.m. CST

EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say a man found dead in his pickup truck in Eureka Springs was shot to death by his father-in-law during a dispute.

Twenty-one-year-old John Robert Shockley was found dead Tuesday night after the truck crashed into a fence. A bullet hole was found behind the driver's seat.

Police charged 58-year-old Billy Merlan Taylor with manslaughter for allegedly firing a shot at Shockley.

Officials say Shockley had been driving up and down the street and drove into Taylor's driveway -- hitting him with the truck.

Police say Taylor fired a rifle shot as Shockley drove away.

Taylor turned himself in to authorities in Benton County last night.
