Tanker Truck Accident in Poinsett County Claims One Life

RIVERVALE, AR - K8 News has learned of a serious accident at Rivervale, near Lepanto, this morning in which a head-on collision between a tanker truck and a car has left one person dead.

The accident occured at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Highway 135.  Sources at the scene say the truck caught fire as a result of the impact.

Names of the victims have not yet been released.  K8 News has a crew at the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.

****UPDATE  12:56 p.m. CST****

Traffic was blocked for a short time while wreckers pulled the big-rig tanker truck out of a field where it came to rest after colliding with a car.

We are told by police the car hit the gas tanks on the side of the truck causing the front of the truck to catch fire.  The driver of the truck escaped with only minor injuries.

The driver of the black Toyota Camry was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tanker truck was an MFA Oil Truck.  The tanker itself did not sustain any damage.  Crews with the state put dirt and sand along State Highway 135 to absorb any gas that did spill.

According to the State Police, the fatality victim has been identified as 45-year-old Lisa Cobb of Lake City.
