Lyon College Baseball Player Arrested by FBI

BATESVILLE, AR - A senior baseball player at Batesville's Lyon College has been arrested by the FBI following an incident last week in the Pensacola, Florida, area.

Jacob Halley, 21, of Crossett, was arrested on March 7 on the Pensacola Beach pier, and has been charged with computer pornography, solicitation of a child, attempted lewd and lascivious conduct and attempted lewd and lascivious battery.

Halley was in Florida with the Lyon baseball team when he was confronted by an undercover FBI agent, whom Halley allegedly thought was a 14-year-old girl.  According to reports, Halley had arranged to meet the "girl" on the pier through instant messaging and, with the intent of having sex.

Lyon College spokesman Bob Qualls says Halley has been suspended from the LC baseball team pending the outcome of the investigation.  "We cannot comment on the charges filed against the student except to say that we will cooperate with legal and judicial authorities as the case progresses," said Qualls.

Halley is currently free on $50,000 bond, and is due to apear in court in Escambia County, Florida on March 23.
