Corning Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Death of Infant Son

PARAGOULD, AR - A Corning man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death of his seven-week-old son.  The boy died of a head injury that prosecutors said couldn't be an accident.  Fred Scott was home alone with his two young sons when Rylan Scott was injured September 27, 2005.  Prosecutor Brent Davis didn't agree with Scott's explanation that the boy had been accidentally dropped on a coffee table.

Defense attorney Mark Rees said Scott reacted appropriately and that Scott's wife didn't seem to think anything was wrong with the child after the incident.

Scott was convicted Monday.  He'll have to serve 70 percent of his sentence, or 14 years.
