Beebe to Testify Before Congress on FEMA Response

LITTLE ROCK - Governor Beebe says he will suggest ways to improve the Federal Emergency Management Agency when he speaks before a congressional committee tomorrow about the agency's response to tornadoes that ravaged the town of Dumas last month. Beebe is scheduled to testify in a House Homeland Security Committee hearing, arranged by Congressman Mike Ross, a Democrat whose district includes Dumas. Beebe says he will express his disappointment that Arkansas wasn't included in a disaster declaration. Last week, FEMA denied the state's request for emergency assistance but approved moving at least 30 travel trailers and mobile homes from Hope to Desha County for displaced residents there. Ross, along with Democratic Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln criticized FEMA for the delay and expressed disappointment the agency denied Beebe's request for a disaster declaration.
