Investigation Continues Into Early Wednesday Morning Shooting

March 14, 2007 - Posted at 6:31 p.m. CDT

JONESBORO-Investigators continue to search for the man responsible for opening fire on 18 year old Byron Washington of Jonesboro.

"Officers arrived on the scene at 1:11 and found one man who had two gunshot wounds to his leg," said Detective Ernest Ward of Jonesboro Police.

The incident happened in the parking lot of Washington's Gladiola Estates apartment.

"He had left his apartment and was traveling to a friend's apartment, which he was getting really close to their apartment when he was approached by this other subject," said Ward.

What happened next is still unclear for investigators as well as the victim himself.

"Says he has no reason why anyone did this. The guy just came up to him. They engaged in a brief conversation, and the gentlemen presented a weapon and fired it three times hitting him twice," said Ward.

Police say they do have a few leads in the case but are asking for any additional information.

"If anybody saw anything, please call. Call crimestoppers, call my office," said Ward.

St. Bernards hospital says Washington is in fair condition.

Meanwhile, if you do have any information, you are urged to call the Jonesboro Police or Crimestoppers at 935-STOP.
