Highway Chief says State Roads Might Not Get Paved This Year

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The head of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department warns that state highways may not be repaved this year or next if the Legislature does not approve a bill providing $100 million for roads.

The bill, currently pending in the Joint Budget Committee, would provide $100 million to the department out of the state's estimated surplus.  Executive Director Dan Flowers says $30 million of that total would go toward local governments and their road needs, while $70 million would go to the state agency.
