LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ Lawyer Angela Galvis Schnuerle of Fayetteville is the newly elected chairwoman of the Hispanic Democratic Caucus of the Arkansas Democratic Party. Schnuerle said other officers elected this weekend included vice chairs Jorge Garcia of Hot Springs and Marie Petters of Little Rock. She said Nicolas Trujillo of Little Rock was named treasurer, and Cheryle Guthery of Little Rock was elected secretary.
The caucus was formed about five years ago to involve Hispanics in Arkansas politics. Schnuerle said the caucus has been monitoring legislation in the current session on issues affecting the Hispanic community, such as enforcement of immigration laws by local police and the minimum wage.
