$4 Million for New Plane for Governor Included in Surplus Request

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The State Police director says a $4 million budget request to replace an Arkansas State Police airplane primarily used by the governor's office will top the list of items funded by the state's surplus.

Colonel Steve Dozier says the state plans to use the money to purchase a 2007 Beechcraft King Air B200...the same model currrently used by the State Police.  However, the Legislature must approve the bill putting the funding request into the general revenue allotment reserve fund, which Dozier said would be funded in front of other requests on the state's estimated $919 million surplus.

The Joint Budget Committee endorsed an amendment today to Governor Beebe's request for the $4 million.

The State Police plane was frequently used by former Governor Mike Huckabee, who left office in January and has formed a presidential exploratory committee.
