Arkansas' Personal Income Grows Nearly 5 Percent

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Preliminary federal figures show Arkansas' personal income grew 4.7 percent from 2005 to 2006.  Even with the increase, the state slid one spot to 48th among states in per capita income.

Only Mississippi and West Virginia reported lower per capita income than Arkansas, which was $27,935 in 2006.  Data from the U.S. Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis shows Louisiana, which was last among states for income in 2005, jumped ahead nine spots to 41st in 2006, thanks to growth after hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Connecticut reported the highets per capita income, at $49,852.

Arkansas' percentage growth was 32nd among the states.  Louisiana's hefty 25.5 percent growth topped all states.
