Execution Sought for Man Charged in 10-Year-Old's Death

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for a man accused of raping and killing a ten-year-old Springdale girl.

Washington County Prosecutor John Threet told a judge yesterday that he would seek execution for 26-year-old Abon Tili. He is accused in the October 21 slaying of Emiti Freddy.

Tili is charged with capital murder and rape in the death of the girl. Tili and his girlfriend, Mami Freddy, were the youngster's legal guardians.

The girl lived with the couple and Tili's three-year-old son in a community of people who moved to northwestern Arkansas from the Marshall Islands. Authorities say the girl's parents still live in the islands.

A trial for Tili had been scheduled to start April 23rd but the case is reset for July 9.
