National Weather Service to Inspect Jonesboro Storm Damage Today

JONESBORO, AR - A storm system that moved over much of northeast Arkansas overnight left a trail of damage from wind, hail and lightning.

In Jonesboro, strong winds damaged the Aramark Uniform building on the city's east side.  The back side of the building was badly damaged, and employees' cars and trucks were blown into a fence.  Trailers and trucks were also overturned.

Employees of the National Weather Service are to visit the site today to determine whether the damage was from a tornado or from straight-line winds.  Spotters reported seeing a tornado.

In addition to widespread hail, the weather service says more than 21,000 lightning strikes were recorded across Arkansas overnight.
