Beebe Says Arkansas Unlikely to Again Have $919 Million Surplus

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Governor Beebe says Arkansans shouldn't expect a repetition of the $919 million budget surplus that was available to help lawmakers meet state needs this year.

Reviewing the 86-day legislative session the day after it ended, Beebe said yesterday that he'd love to see another surplus that size in two years, but he sure doesn't look for it.

Beebe praised the Legislature for setting aside about half of the surplus for school facilities, and for the House and Senate agreeing to split $40 million for various projects.

Beebe will have roughly $188 million to spend on various projects.
