St. Francis County to Put Bond Issue Improvements for Courthouse and Jail to Vote

FORREST CITY, AR - Voters in St. Francis County will go to the polls tomorrow to decide a special bond election that would fund improvements at the courthouse and county jail, if approved.

Turnout for early voting on the issue has been low, according to county officials.  As of Thursday, only about 200 people had cast votes early.

The election was called for by the St. Francis County Quorum Court, to use ten percent of a one-cent sales tax established in 1989 to pay for bonds to repair the jail.  Three bond issues are on the ballot.  The first will pay back the existing bond, while the other two will extend the bond to 2013 and fund repairs to the courthouse and jail.
