Group Hopes to Use Bull Shoals Lake for Drinking Water

DIAMOND CITY, Ark. (AP) - A north Arkansas group is seeking permission to use Bull Shoals Lake for drinking water for communities in Boone, Newton and Searcy counties.

The lake is a federal reservoir, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Ozark Mountain Regional Public Water Authority says the lake water could be used to replace an existing water source that is either inadequate or well water that has high radium levels. The proposal calls for a $50 million dollar plant near Diamond City and about 115 miles of water transmission lines.
