CBS Fires Imus from Radio Network

NEW YORK (AP) - CBS has fired radio host Don Imus.

The company was under growing pressure to terminate the host after he called the Rutgers women's basketball team a group of ``nappy-headed hos'' last week.

CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves says there's been a lot of discussion about ``the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society.''

Moonves says that consideration ``weighed most heavily'' as the company made its decision.

Meanwhile, the host's annual Radiothon charity drive has raised more than $1.3 million. Producers for the Radiothon say volunteers were getting about 200 more pledges per hour than they were last year.
