LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Governor Beebe says the end of the long, long tunnel that the Lake View school funding case has been for Arkansas appears to be getting bigger and closer, and he says he's encouraged. Beebe said yesterday that he was heartened by what occurred Tuesday at a hearing before two special masters appointed by the state Supreme Court to oversee the case.
At that hearing, attorneys for three of the four districts challenging Arkansas' school funding efforts said they were pleased with the Legislature's education efforts this year. An attorney for the Little Rock School District, however, told a pair of masters appointed by the state Supreme Court that more work remains.
Beebe said the lawyers' comments indicate they don't have anything else on their checklist and they think it's over.
