Caruthersville Campuses Lock Down while Authorities Search for Suspects

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO - Two campuses in the Caruthersville School District were on lockdown mode for a short time this morning as law enforcement authorities searched for two suspects wanted in northeast Arkansas.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., Caruthersville Police were notified that 30-year-old Juan Saldana of Kennett and 30-year-old Rudy Gonzalez of Texas were believed to be in an area near the school's campuses.  The two suspects are wanted in Clay County on felony charges of arson and distribution of a controlled substance.

The suspects were believed to be armed with a gun and hiding in a shed in the 1700 block of Ward Avenue.  Caruthersville officers were joined at the scene by Pemiscot County deputies and officers with the Missouri Highway Patrol.  School officials were soon notified and put the middle and high school campuses on lockdown as lawmen secured the area.

Officers then learned from the property owner that Saldana and Gonzales had been at the residence, but were told that they were no longer there.  Officers then searched the property and determined that the two men were no longer in the area, and at that time the school's lockdown was lifted.

Authorities continue to search for Saldana and Gonzalez.
