MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities in Memphis say a University of Tennessee police officer has fatally wounded a man who pulled a gun in a hospital parking lot.
Authorities say the man -- whose name hasn't been released -- died about three hours after being shot around nine o'clock last night.
Police say the incident began with a robbery of the cafeteria at the Regional Medical Center.
A short time later, the armed UT police officer spotted the man in a parking lot and confronted him.
Police say the man again pulled his pistol and pointed it at the UT officer, who fired several times, striking the man in the stomach and mortally wounding him.
The gunman is thought to be in his mid-30s.
