Memphis Authorities Recover Weapons Stolen from SWAT Van Bound for Arkansas

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis police have recovered most of the weapons, including automatic assault weapons, stolen from a locked North Carolina SWAT team van earlier this week.

Authorities say the theft occured as the North Carolina deputies were traveling to the World SWAT challenge in Little Rock.

Eight weapons and ammunition were stolen Monday when members of the Wake County Sheriff's Department SWAT team stopped to eat at a barbeque restaurant in Tennessee.

Police said yesterday that investigators found the three assault rifles and three shotguns, but two .357-caliber handguns were still missing.  An anonymous tip led police to the first of the stolen assault weapons.

One man was in custody and several suspects have been detained for questioning and charges are pending.
