Stretch of SeMo Highway to be Named After Carnahan Aide

PUXICO, MO - A stretch of highway in southeast Missouri will be dedicated to a top aide of Governor Mel Carnahan who perished along with the governor and the governor's son in a 2000 plane crash.

Chris Sifford was on the plane that crashed in October of 2000 in Jefferson County, just weeks prior to the election in which Carnahan was running for U.S. Senate.  Carnahan's name remained on the ballot, and he beat incumbent Republican John Ashcroft that November.

Today, Highway 51 in the Stoddard County town of Puxico will be named for Sifford, a Stoddard County native.

A new baseball park in Puxico will also soon bear Sifford's name.
