Beebe: Split of Health and Human Services Could Wait Until 2008

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Beebe says a potential split of the Department of Health and Human Services could wait until next year.

Beebe met with Health and Human Services Director John Selig and Health Division Director Paul Halverson yesterday to discuss potentially reverting the department to two separate agencies.  A bill Beebe signed into law gives him the authority to split the department, which was formed by merging the departments of health and human services in 2005.

Beebe says the best way to separate the departments would be to do it by July 1 of this year, or July 1 of 2008.  The state's fiscal year begins on July 1.

Beebe says he's still leaning toward splitting up the department.
