OMAHA, AR - The Omaha School Board has voted unanimously to expel a junior who said he wished there would be a Virginia Tech-like attack in the Omaha schools.
Five or six students heard the student make the remark April 25, nine days after Seung-Hui Cho shot and killed 32 Virginia Tech students before killing himself. Principal Martha Hicks and Superintendent David Land recommended the expulsion, which was approved on a 5-to-0 vote.
The student, a boy, can finish his classwork at home and take final exams at a neutral site, then return to the campus in the fall.
The student's father asked for a closed-door hearing at which the board could re-evaluate its penalty.
