Jonesboro Native to Leave Post as State Police Director

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Mike Beebe announced this afternoon that Colonel Steve Dozier, a Jonesboro native, will resign his position as Director of the Arkansas State Police to become a Vice President of Corporate Services at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

Dozier, an Arkansas State University graduate, was appointed Director of the ASP in June 2004, and was asked by Governor Beebe to continue as Director under his administration.

"Colonel Dozier has dedicated more than 25 years to serving Arkansas and has always taken the protection of our citizens to heart," Beebe said.  "He was one of the first agency directors I decided to keep on board from the previous administration.  Steve's leadership and wise counsel will be missed and I hate to see him go.  We are now working to ensure a smooth transition for our state police under a new director or interim director."

Dozier's resignation becomes effective on May 31.
